The story behind this design

Zebra stripes were made for all-over print: the pattern has no natural centre, so it gains rather than loses by running off the edges of the garment. Across the seams the bands break and pick up again slightly out of register, which is how real zebra hide behaves around a shoulder anyway. At full coverage the shirt reads as pattern first and animal second.
