The story behind this design

Koalas turn up on a lot of shirts as shorthand for cute, and rarely as animals with a conservation problem. This drawing splits the difference: the face keeps its softness, but the pose is upright and alert rather than curled asleep in a fork of eucalyptus. Read on black it acquires a stillness that suits a species whose habitat keeps shrinking.
