The story behind this design

Traditional damask repeats are built from acanthus leaves and pomegranates, so this design swaps the pomegranate for a pumpkin and lets the scrollwork grow out of its stem. Gold sits on burgundy at the weight of old book endpapers, dense enough to read as pattern from across a room but fine enough to stay quiet under a plate. The mood is formal harvest rather than farmhouse.
