The story behind this design

An abstract pattern does something a repeating one cannot: it gives the eye somewhere to rest without telling it which way up the mat belongs. The shapes here are drawn loose and overlapping, in blue over grey, so the edges blur where they cross. Grey is the practical choice as well as the quiet one, since it is the color a bathroom floor least shows against.
